Phillies Cole Hamels Throws No Hitter Against the Cubs

Perhaps starting his last game for the Phillies, Cole Hamels came up with a gem of a performance and a no-hitter against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field in a 5-0 victory. Here's a collection tweets and some pretty cool video from Wrigley, outside Xfinity Live, and Citi Field (???), home of the New York Mets. This was actually the best reaction to the call made by Phillies announcer Tom McCarthy. Could you imagine the reaction if Phillies' center fielder Odubel Herrera didn't come up with the final out and Hamels lost his no-hitter?

If this was Hamels last game, our 2008 World Series MVP went out like a true champion. They're many teams looking to make an offer to the Phillies in an attempt to acquire Cole by the trade deadline on July 31st.

Wheels and Sarge Out as Phillies Broadcasters

Gary Matthews and Chris Wheeler
(AP) Longtime Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Chris Wheeler is out after nearly four decades in the booth and Gary Matthews isn't returning as color analyst.

The team recently signed a new television contract with NBCUniversal and Comcast SportsNet that's reportedly worth $2.5 billion over 25 years. The decision to replace Wheeler and Matthews came from the network, multiple sources told The Associated Press on Wednesday on condition of anonymity because it hadn't commented on the matter.

Wheeler and Matthews will continue to work with the organization in other roles, the team said.

Glen Macnow Returns to 94 WIP With New Deal in Hand

Glen Macnow returned to his Saturday morning football show with Ray Didinger today and sounded upbeat and chipper as the two discussed the upcoming Eagles/Bears Sunday Night Football. Macnow had been off the air since December 9th. Macnow voluntarily left the afternoon show with co-host Anthony Gargano while contract negotiations were in limbo.

Macnow's new contract with CBS Radio will have him doing pre-game shows for the Eagles broadcasts on WIP and for the Phillies on sister station 1210 WPHT during baseball season. In January, he will also be heard on another CBS owned station KYW Newsradio 1060’s afternoon broadcast of “Reporter’s Roundup,” and during football season with Harry Donahue on the station’s morning sports reports at a quarter of and a quarter after the hour.
