NBC 10 News anchor Tim Lake worked his last shift at the station on Friday night's 11 p.m. newscast. His contract was not renewed by NBC Universal. He had been told months earlier that he would not be offered a new contract. He left the airwaves with no fanfare. Would that have happened at Channel 3 or 6?
Lake had been with Channel 10 for 20 years and is the last on-air anchor at WCAU-TV who transitioned with the station from its days as a CBS affiliate to being owned by NBC. That big switch happened in Philadelphia in 1994. Channel 3 KYW-TV of course became CBS 3.
NBC 10 is said to be looking for a new main anchor, however newcomer Chris Cato is probably slated to fill that position.
Why didn't NBC10 renew his contrat? I thought he did a good job over the years. Why replace him with this new guy? Money?
ReplyDeleteNot surwhy they didnot pick up his contract. I thought he was very good and not bad to look at . They hired someone else at a lowere rate perhaps. Its always about money. Chanel 10 made a mistake here.
ReplyDeleteyes they did
DeleteI really liked Tim Lake as a News Anchor. Much better then Keith Jones or Fattah for that matter. What was the thought process behind that decision? Not a good move by NBC in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteReally stupid.given the rest of the losers at channel 10 that are so cloying and unprofessional it is now almost impossible to justify channel 10 news.
ReplyDeleteTim Lake was an outstanding professional news anchor. NBC made a major mistake here. I have watched this news station for years and am shocked at the callous treatment of a 20 year employee who served this station so well.
ReplyDeleteFirst Ann Curry, then Tim Lake. Don't even think
ReplyDeleteOf letting Dave Warren go. I will be changing to CBS!
Tim lake was great. Very welcoming! Don't even think
ReplyDeleteOf replacing Dave. Warren. He is a real asset . I will be watching CBS from now on!
The word is that the decision was made by a couple of new managers who don't know Philly and were po'd that he was making more than they were. Iss always 'bout $$$.
ReplyDeleteI worked with Tim in the Mid90s at 10. You couldn't meet a nicer guy. A true gentleman who deserved more of a sendoff after 20+ years.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the bums with whom they replaced Lake and Timmeney. I know I will be watching CBS, Fox, and ABC news instead of NBC. And why would they keep Chenault-Fattah? Only because of politics in the homestead! And Sikahema had a hard enough time with Wednesday's child let alone doing news broadcasting.

ReplyDeleteShame on you Channel 10 !!!
Agreed. Tim Lake was very good in what he did. Hiring these new folks are most likely financial but they lack in personality. True disappointment
ReplyDeleteIf you're older than 50, watch your back! We want news to be news, not entertainment. Maybe that's why CBS and ABC have better ratings. They did the same thing to Ken Matz years back.
ReplyDeleteHope you get a better gig Tim.
JUST LEARNED THAT TIM LAKE IS NO LONGER WITH NBC 10. WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE!! HE WAS A TRUE PROFESSIONAL AND AN EXCEPTIONAL REPORTER. NBC SEEMS TO BE MAKING CHANGES THAT ARE NOT FAVORABLE TO THE VIEWERS. WE HAVE WATCHED HIM FOR YEARS AND ARE SO DISAPPOINTED WITH NBC'S DECISION IN THIS MATTER.BEST OF LUCK IN THE FUTURE TIM.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't get rid of this Vi whoever I won't be watching NBC 10 much longer.
ReplyDeleteVI, yes won't be waching NBC
DeleteTim Lake is an excellent reporter. His work was superb and we will miss the news without him in the anchor seat. We do not understand the reasoning behind ignoring his work for 20 years.
ReplyDeleteWe will choose another station to view our evening news - how could his exemplary work be ignored? Best wishes to Tim Lake. To channel 10- please explain to your audience why you did not applaud his work with a new contract or, at the very least, with a proper thank you for a job well done.
I think they should get rid if the dippy weather girl Sheena. I don't like how she's always sticking her chest out .
ReplyDeleteI don't think she's putting any effort into sticking her chest out -- I think she's just genuinely THAT BIG. As far as sticking her chest out, how about the new news anchor filling in for Renee week of March 18 and 25? She's really that big too, but a little thick all over so lets hope her hips continue fitting on wider TV screens.
DeletePlease please do not get rid of Glenn hurricane Schwartz
ReplyDeletethat bow tie make him look OLD GLENN SCHARTZ
DeleteChris Cato is NOT anchor material
ReplyDeleteShocked to see Tim Lake gone. He was really a class act and the fill ins are not going to keep me watching this news cast. Big mistake.
ReplyDeleteTim was my favorite on the news. He was much better than anyone else WCAU has. Boo!
ReplyDeleteTim lake was a grea anchor. He was to nbc10 what jim gardner is to channel 6. Whoever made this decision for sure doesn't know philly and its people. We like familiar people we can count on for our news. nbc10 will never lead in the ratings based on these stupid moves
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a bit slow on the draw....thought maybe Tim was vacationing. I'm not happy with the changes being made at NBC 10 these days....Vai is best on sports & looks lost at the news desk. Fattah has certainly outlived her usefulness as an anchor.....no pizazz.
ReplyDeletewishing the best of luck & an upgrade for Tim...miss you!
aLL THIS IS TRUE
DeleteTIm Lake was boring. Pretty boy prompter-jockey. His delivery was robotic and scripted to the tee.
ReplyDeleteWhen he did have the rare chance to go off-script, as during a major storm...he was inept.
Impersonal and emotionless. Good bye.
Tim lake was a true professional... Vai. Stinks and can barely do a lucid sports report
ReplyDeleteI HAVE WATCHED TIM LAKE ON THE NEWS FOR YEARS, AND AM SHOCKED THAT NBC LET HIM GO AND WITH NOT EVEN A WORD ABOUT HIM LEAVING. HE WAS WAS MY FAVORITE NEWSPERSON AND HE WILL BE MISSED. I REALLY THINK NBC MADE A HUGE MISTAKE!!! FATTAH STINKS AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN DUMPED INSTEAD, BUT NOT TIM. SHAME ON YOU NBC!!! YOU LOST ME AS A VIEWER!
ReplyDeleteI AM SO SORRY TO SEE TIM LAKE GONE FROM NBC'S ANCHOR DESK. HE WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND A CLASS ACT. ALSO VERY NICE TO LOOK AT. DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE THOUGHT PROCESS. AND TO JUST LET HIM GO W/O EVEN A WORD ON-AIR. VERY SHABBY. I WILL BE CHANGING OVER TO ABC EVEN THOUGH I VERY MUCH LIKE HURRICANE. HUGE MISTAKE POWERS THAT BE! :(
ReplyDeleteTim Lake was one of the best! Apparently, his honesty and unbiased reporting were too much for ultra-liberal NBCUniveral and the blatantly liberal powers at Comcast to comprehend. When General Electric was the primary owner of NBCUniversal, the network was going downhill, but with Comcast ownership, it is getting worse each day. The quality of the network is careening downhill at the meteoric speed of the space rocks which have recently struck or been near misses to Earth.
ReplyDeleteNBC made a huge mistake by not renewing Tim's contract. He was an asset to the channel 10 news team. He will be sorely missed. I honestly don't know where to go to watch my news now. Can't take those laughing hyenias on ABC. Sorry to see Tim go. In this case, change is not always good.
ReplyDeleteI don' watch Ch 10 News anymore! No class! Should of at least given Tim Lake proper send-off! Badly done NBC! No longer a fan!
ReplyDeleteWe have watched Tim Lake since we moved to Philly over 7 years ago. He was THE best 6pm anchor in the city. I don't understand the decision except changes like this are usually made when ratings go down. But, this change will most likely ensure poor ratings for some time to come. Tim deserved a better send off than this after 20 years of service. Wishing Tim and his family the very best!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry they let Tim go. The news does not seem the same. I wish him luck .
ReplyDeleteThey let Tim and Dawn go to pay for that wasteful chopper.Who cares about those useless areal shots.Skyforce 10 how lame
ReplyDeleteWhat a Heartless way to let a True Professional& well liked anchor go. I Hope Tim Lake makes his next Anchor Debut at rival Channel 3 or 6. Tim will be sorely missed in Philadelphia. NBC10, you lost a loyal viewer!
ReplyDeleteI KNEW THEY MUST HAVE GOT RID OF TIM LAKE AND DIDNT EVEN MAKE MENTION OF IT. THEY JUST SLID IN THE NEW BLACK GIRL WITH BORING RENEE WE NEED NEW BLOOD. DONT LIKE THE NEW GIRL WITH RENEE. I THIUGHT TIM LAKE WAS WONDERFUL . ONE THING I NOTICED ALL THE NEW GIRLS WEAR TIGHT CLOTHING.
ReplyDeletePLEASE ASK SHEENA PARVIN OR WHATEVER HER NAME IS, TO PLEASE PUT HER BELT ON CORRECTLY AND TO STOP STICKING HER CHEST OUT.
ReplyDeleteSHE IS ON MY LAST NERVE AND SHE IS TOO SHORT TO BE CONSIDERED THE GLAMOROUS PERSON THAT SHE SHINKS SHE IS.
First Tim Lake, then Dave Warren. Are you folks seeing a pattern? Who's next, John Clark?
ReplyDeleteI have stopped watching NBC. I love Tim and Renee together. Since his departure they have not been able to add any quality people to the news team. I feel like I am watching local news from a small town, not a major market.
ReplyDeleteSikahema stinks at the news. Poor articulation. Tim and Dawn were awesome anchors. It comes down to greedy management. I am sick of all the new girls with their tight clothes. It seems more about a pageant show rather than superb quality reexporting and getting in touch with the Philadelphia folks. I will no longer support channel 10. Audios
ReplyDelete!
I think this channel has gone to the dogs a long time ago and when Tim Lake came along, the station finally got a surprising new lift. Now, Mr. Lake is gone, and, if I might add, with no FANFARE, it is really going downhill to HELL in a hen basket. What is wrong with you people. Fattah is only there because of her husbands politicking with the democraps. You are going down the tubes in ratings! It is off to the Weather Channel for me. TATA Fattah
