NBC 10 Renee Chenault-Fattah On Leave After Husband's Indictment

Renee Chenault-Fattah long time news anchor and the wife of the indicted United States Representative Chaka Fattah has temporarily left the anchoring chair at NBC 10. Chenault-Fattah was not charged by the U.S. attorney's office but she was mentioned in the 85-page indictment. She was a participant, according to the indictment, in a scheme to falsely report the sale of her 1989 Porsche Carrera convertible to a lobbyist for $18,000.

The Fattahs used the cash to help buy a $425,000 vacation home in the Poconos, but Chenault-Fattah kept the Porsche and even renewed its registration. She has contacted NBC 10 and stated in a letter that the car sale was legal and explains why the car remains at her home.

Rep. Chaka Fattah and others face charges of racketeering, bribery, mail fraud, and money laundering. Pretty serious stuff.

New Faces at NBC 10 @NBCPhiladelphia

Chris Cato with now "veteran" anchor Denise Nakano
Sometimes it seems you can't keep up with the new additions to the newsroom over at NBC 10. The comings and goings have been many in the past few months.

No longer on the air are veteran NBC 10 staffers Tim Lake, Terry Ruggles, Dawn Timmeney. Recently added are weekend weather anchor Brittney Shipp, along with reporters Daralene Jones, and Nefertiti Jáquez. Shipp comes to Philly from the NBC station in Phoenix. Jones arrives from Orlando, and Jaquez, the former Fox 29 reporter returns to Philly from Houston.

By the way new news anchor Chris Cato did a great job filling in and doing sports on the weekend during one of the recent weekend newscasts. He came off very creditable. ...Impressed!

Here are the aforementioned in a recent Twitter photo. [below]

NBC 10 Abandons Nonstop Philadelphia Channel Early for Cozi TV

NBC 10 has dropped the programming on its local entertainment channel Nonstop Philadelphia. It will be replaced by a new channel from NBC Universal Cozi TV. The new channel will feature classic drama, action and comedy shows. Get ready for shows like Charlie Angels, Magnum P.I., and The Beverly Hillbillies. It was originally slated to begin in January. The decision itself came from the parent company, NBC Universal, which has launched Cozi TV in several markets across the country including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

The new channel is promoting itself through social media. They say 'it will be easier on your eyes and easier on your mind.' Cozi TV will be found on the same place as the former Nonstop Philadelphia. That would be on 10.2 digital, 248 on Comcast and 460 on Verizon FIOS channels.

I for one will miss "Talk Stoop" from NBC 4 in New York and the locally produced "Foodies" with NBC 10 reporter Tim Furlong. The new Cozi TV channel will allow for local programming to pre-empt network programming. Here's hoping 'Foodies" returns on Cozi.

NBC 10 Continues Make Over, Timmeney Leaves and Jáquez Returns

Former Fox 29 reporter Nefertiti Jáquez will be returning to Philadelphia in 2013 to work for NBC10. Jáquez, who left the Philadelphia market in 2009 has been working as a reporter and fill-in anchor for the NBC affiliate in Houston.

Dawn Timmeney, who anchored the 4 and 5:30 p.m. newscasts at NBC 10 has been released by the station. She worked at NBC10 for nearly 12 years. Her contract was not renewed as was most recently anchor Tim Lake.

Tim Lake No Longer with NBC 10 WCAU TV

NBC 10 News anchor Tim Lake worked his last shift at the station on Friday night's 11 p.m. newscast. His contract was not renewed by NBC Universal. He had been told months earlier that he would not be offered a new contract. He left the airwaves with no fanfare. Would that have happened at Channel 3 or 6?

Lake had been with Channel 10 for 20 years and is the last on-air anchor at WCAU-TV who transitioned with the station from its days as a CBS affiliate to being owned by NBC. That big switch happened in Philadelphia in 1994. Channel 3 KYW-TV of course became CBS 3.

NBC 10 is said to be looking for a new main anchor, however newcomer Chris Cato is probably slated to fill that position.
