Wired 96.5 Becomes "Flyered 96.5" this Weekend

In celebration of the return of the NHL, Philly's Party Station Wired 96.5 has changed the station's name to Flyered 96.5. The Flyers radio home for regular season games has switched from 94 WIP to 97.5 The Fanatic along with the Sixers. WMMR will serve as the alternate station when both teams play on the same night. I guess owner Greater Media doesn't mind that Beasley Broadcasting's station 'Wired' is flyered up and helping to promote the Flyers opening.

Maybe no one will notice that Casey, Buster, and Shamara are the only ones holding down the fort until backups arrive. Where's Tingle? Anyway Let's Go Flyers! It's been a long time coming.

97.5 The Fanatic Philadelphia "Flyered Up" Contest Winner

97.5 The Fanatic listener and BIG Flyers fan Ryan Bergin won the station's "Flyered Up" contest. He scored Flyers season tickets for the lockout shorten 48 game regular season. The season begins tomorrow afternoon against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Nice production on the video with shots of NBC 10's Sheena Parveen and Fox 29's Kacie McDonnell.

950 ESPN and WPEN is Now Family Radio WKDN

Family Radio will return to Philadelphia tonight at 6 PM when 950 ESPN (WPEN-AM) drops its simulcast of sports radio 97.5 The Fanatic. The new station is an old friend to the Philly area as the Family Radio  religious format returns along with their signature call letters WKDN. Their new home will be now occupy 950 AM.

950 ESPN simulcasted most of the programs on 97.5 The Fanatic, however there were a few exceptions like The Herd with Colin Cowherd. Also in the mix are Flyers hockey (if or when it returns) and 76ers basketball. Both teams' games broadcast on 97.5 The Fanatic, however if there is a conflict when both teams play on the same night 950 ESPN is no longer available. The hockey games will be pushed over to WMMR. There might be more of a conflict than what otherwise might be the case if the strike shorten NHL season returns. Not sure how that will go over with the rockers on 'MMR.

WKDN for many years broadcasts from the 106.9 FM frequency with offices and transmitter in Camden County. That station now features Talk station IQ 106.9 (WWIQ) and their mostly national syndicated programs with hosts Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh and local morning show with former TV anchorman Larry Mendte.

Half of 97.5 The Fanatic- 950 WPEN Sold to Family Radio

The Flyers and Sixers will air this season on 97.5 The Fanatic. (That is if there is a hockey season) However where will they be heard on those nights when both teams play on the same night?

Look for them to air on BEN-FM or 102.9 MGK...

Family Stations, Inc. today announced that it has reached an agreement to purchase Greater Media Philadelphia’s station WPEN-AM, licensed to Philadelphia, PA. WPEN-AM is a Class B station that transmits on 950 kHz with daytime power of 43,000 watts and nighttime power of 21,000 watts. Greater Media will retain the WPEN call letters for its FM Sports station, 97.5 The Fanatic. The transaction is subject to customary conditions, including regulatory and other approvals, and WPEN-AM will continue to air its current line-up of sports programming while the closing is pending.
